GTA V Early Thoughts

Without a doubt the most anticipated game of 2013 is Grand Theft Auto 5.   Does it live up the spectacle of what the GTA series has become?  It does and blows all others out of the water.  Its compelling story grabs you in and immerses you like no other GTA game has before.
Graphically it is the best yet as it should be.  The look of the game varies so much from day to night, urban Los Santos to rural San Andreas and smooth paved highways to dusty dirt roads.   The voice acting and the script is so entertaining, the sounds of everything around just immerse you fully.
It's as close to perfect one could want in a "sandbox" style game and GTA Online doesn't launch until October 1st which I am sure will bring in even more entertainment in an already excellent game.

Sports Champions 2 Demo Review

Sports Champions 2 demo plays wonderfully, not surprising because it is made by the same folks who made the first one. Tennis is way, way fun and I really want to play it on tougher difficulty in the full game.  The opponent AI in this demo is obviously set on 'easy.'  Skiing is more fun than I thought and I really want to try different slopes. Golf plays like golf as it should requiring lots of swing to drive the ball, I hope we get 18 holes in the full game. The controls are brilliant with the 1-to-1 motion expected with the Move.  It's a day one purchase for even the mildest Sports Champions fan.

Vita Trophies On My PS3

Recent PS3 update 4.30 added some trophy functionality making Vita trophies viewable on the PS3.  It wasn't completely needed but what I like most is seeing the Vita's trophy tiles larger on my TV.  Also cool is seeing recently earned Vita trophies in the playercard as well.

My recent LBP Vita trophies and a tough TOM Blitz gold trophy.

The Win is Most Important

From my youtube video's description:  I planted the bomb and called my napalm strike over it. The enemy can clearly see me die by flames yet still ventures out into flames to lose.

Trophy Level 10 Achieved

I was playing combat training in Black Ops and I reached rank ten giving me a trophy for this. I was at trophy level 9 - 99% and this trophy took me to trophy level 10 - 0%.
I still haven't got the LBP 2 platinum yet I only need one more online trophy. Now I am curious how much percentage a platinum gives at this level.

SOCOM 4 Beta

After a few days of trying to get a code from the socom.com forums giveaways I was finally successful on Friday.  Quite surprisingly I was "instant" reply number 15 of 50 for the day's giveaway.
I played a few games after the 1.5 GB downloading and it is very fun.  The game play is very similar feeling to MAG, at least that is what the game modes feeling gives off.  I haven't yet played the "classic" round based play but the respawn play feels very polished.  After one night's playing I can happily say it is a fun game experience and I can only imagine even more fun with a single player campaign and more than 2 online maps.

SOCOM 4, only one month away!

With the first wave of beta invites going out a couple days ago out come the youtube videos showing off this game further, and this game looks to be stellar.  Sadly I did not get an invite so I'll have to wait until April 5th when it goes public for a week before launch.  Majority will stick to the "classic" game play Socom is known for, and for good reason, it is unique and rewarding.  Much like MAG you can play respawn as well, although it will probably be unranked like previous Socom games before it making the "classic" modes the core.
I have been watching numerous videos and the game play mechanics look to be quite similar to MAG, after all this game is made by the same developer.  The biggest difference being this is third-person perspective where MAG is a first-person game.  The environment in this beta level looks close to MAG's graphics, similar colors mixed with familiar looking vegetation.  Pacing looks perfect, appears a tad quicker than MAG and not as fast as twitch shooters like Call of Duty.
The video below is a good example of the similarities between MAG and Socom 4.  It's a cut montage style, fun nevertheless.

MAG Platinum Trophy

There it is, over 370 hours of gaming achieved.  In my opinion MAG is the most fulfilling online shooter to come out in the past few years.  I will still continue to play now that I have attained the trophy, though I am sure I'll lower my weekly hours.

My final trophy before the platinum.  I had some great defense games that night. I got my final medal rather easily that evening.

My prediction for next platinum trophy will be Little Big Planet 2 in January, a fun game even without trophies to obtain.

One More Medal!

I just earned my 1000th sniper rifle kill earning me another medal in addition to completing the last of the silver trophies.  All that remains in my goal of platinum is just one more medal for the eager beaver trophy.  Getting there might take some time as my remaining medals aren't very easy but I am close on some of them.  I will post here as soon as I accomplish my platinum trophy.

Massive Action Trophies

After months of sitting on three fragger ribbons I got two in one evening playing new game mode Escalation.  In a close game I just kept throwing grenades in objective D ran back a bit to resupply and ran back in and threw more grenades.  With a few multi-kill grenades mixed in it wasn't too difficult after all.  I then played a game of Domination for the ten minute longer match length to be certain I get 25 machine gun kills for my fifth machine gun ribbon and the trophy.

The next night I played a few matches and focused on the assault rifle to get just two more assault ribbons needed for the trophy.  The assault rifle is a great overall weapon I neglected for a while to use the faster shooting sub-machine gun.

I now only have two trophies remaining for the platinum.  Headhunter trophy which I only need 300 more sniper kills for the medal and trophy.  The eager beaver trophy which is to get at least 58 medals, I have 53 currently.  I will keep you posted on my progress as usual.

Not So Precious Cargo

SUCCESS! For I have acquired this trophy after many, many games of acquistion.  What is most remarkable, according to the in-game stats my twenty escort vehicle destroys is more than 97% of all MAG players, and that's the minimum needed for the trophy.  My next goal in MAG is three more combat fragger ribbons to meet the needed five for the "A whole lotta hurt" trophy.  Be sure I will post again when accomplished.

Almost Precious Cargo

Perhaps one of the the toughest trophies in MAG is almost mine.  I am currently sitting at 18 of the required 20 escort vehicle destroys for this trophy unlock.  Getting these last two is feeling tiring though.  Attacking forces are really getting away before I can destroy, this trophy is part luck. Perhaps a change like anti-tank mines then the finishing RPG for the destroy.  I cannot wait for the moment I hit that last vehicle for the trophy!  I am certain it will bring a huge smile to my face.
